Interactive reports are great. You can quickly discover where specific culprits are. For some reports especially targeted to C level and managing roles, it’s not always necessary to dive into the specifics. A daily overview of the KPI’s is enough. When you want to investigate, you should always be able to dive in the details. We call this feature, report preview.
This feature is only available for Hybrid and Enterprise implementations.

How to set up Report Preview

First you define what parts of a report you want to preview. This can be specific visuals or entire pages. Then you create a schedule for that report.
You define the preview in the menu on the left. Click the Cog to enable the menu’s edit mode and then select ‘Report Preview’. You now get an overview of all the visuals and report pages. Check the visuals you want and order them to your liking.

For this report, I want to add the ‘Close % by Product Category’ and ‘Revenue Won by Product’ bar charts from the Key Influencers page in the preview.

So I select these visuals in the Report preview screen. This screen is only available in Hybrid and Enterprise implementations.
After this, I setup a schedule for a Report or My View.

For Hybrid and Enterprise implementations a new keyword is available to add to the Email that is send to the receivers [ReportPreview].

In the example above I placed the [ReportPreview] tag in the Email body. The report preview will replace the tag.

Result

The Email of the Artificial Intelligence report with the preview of the two bar chart visuals will look like this:

Security

  • Only users that have access to the report can receive these E-mails.
  • RLS will be enabled when generating the report preview. So it’s possible that every users sees a different report preview.

Power BI Settings (troubleshooting)

Exporting images is enabled by default in Power BI. If this feature doesn't work, please make sure you enabled 'Export reports to image files'.
To do this, navigate to the Power BI Admin portal and enable this feature.

If you only want Webdashboard to be able to do this, the Webdashboard-Access (Hybrid) or the Webdashboard service principal you created needs to added to a security group. Then add that group to the 'Specific security groups' list and click Apply.
